Nicholas Bertram is an intellectual property lawyer with an expertise in patent procurement. He is called to the bars of Québec (2014) and New York (2016). He has a degree in biochemistry from McGill University (2010, BSc honours) and completed his LLB in civil law (2013, Dean’s List) and common law in 2015 at Université de Montréal. He develops patent protection strategies tailored to the client’s business objectives. He prepares and prosecutes patent applications that hone in on the key features of the developed technology while keeping in mind eventual patent enforcement and commercialization. He also provides legal support in patent related litigation.

Mr. Bertram drafts applications covering chemical, mechanical and biotechnological subject matter. Having a biochemistry background and research experience in protein crystallography, Nicholas is very familiar with chemical, biotechnology and pharmaceutical matters.

Moreover, Mr. Bertram advises clients in industrial design protection. He also assists clients by identifying important trade-mark, copyright and licensing issues that require attention.

Mr. Bertram volunteers and participates as a member of the Board of Directors of the Visual Arts Centre, one of Montreal’s oldest and largest art schools, assisting the Centre with managerial and legal matters. He also frequently gives conferences in intellectual property matters.

He is a member of The Young Bar of Montreal; IPIC, member of the International Patent Issues Committee; Regroupement des praticiens du droit des marques de commerce (RPM); ALAI Canada.
